Our guiding principle is to collect only what we need. Here’s what that means in practice:
Identity and Access
When you sign up for Moonlight Monitor, we ask for identifying information such as your name and email address. This is so you can personalize your account, and we can send you product updates and essential information.
Billing Information
If you sign up for a paid Moonlight Monitor plan, you will be asked to provide payment information. We use third-party payment processors, so your payment information never touches our servers. We store a record of your transactions for account history and billing support.
Monitoring Data
To provide the service we store the web addresses (URLs) and settings of the resources you ask us to monitor, any request details you configure (such as an HTTP method, request body or keyword), and the results of each check, including response time, status code, error messages and incident history. If you connect Slack, we store the Slack webhook address you provide so we can send alerts to your channel. If you use heartbeat monitoring, we record the pings your systems send us.
Alert Contacts
We use your account email address, and any team members you invite, to send alert, reminder and summary emails about your monitors.
IP Addresses
We log the IP address used when you sign up for security purposes. We also log account access by IP address to prevent fraud and enhance security.
Website Interactions
We collect information about how you use our website and app, such as pages viewed, for analytics purposes, such as conversion rate testing and new product design experiments.
2. When We Access or Disclose Your Information
We only access your data under limited circumstances:
- To provide services: We use third-party processors, such as payment, email delivery, hosting and analytics providers, to help operate Moonlight Monitor. They are bound by strict data protection requirements.
- With your permission: If you ask for support or need help, we might need to access your account with your explicit permission.
- For legal reasons: If required by law, we may disclose your information to comply with legal obligations.
3. Your Rights with Respect to Your Information

4. How We Secure Your Data
All data is encrypted via SSL/TLS when transmitted from our servers to your browser. We also employ industry-standard measures to protect data at rest.
5. Data Retention
We keep your information only as long as necessary to provide our services and comply with legal obligations. Monitoring results are kept for the log retention period of your plan and then deleted. If you cancel your account, your account and all associated monitors are deleted.
